Draft Strategy in Development - Offer Your Comments

As many as 1 in 3 adults in Thurston County do not meet the recommendation for physical activity of 30 minutes per day (a total of 150 minutes per week) and this increases the risk for chronic diseases. A key factor in whether people are active enough is whether they find safe and supportive environments for walking, and similar moderate activity, where they live.

The Thurston Thrives Community Design Action Team has been working on strategies to increase the opportunities to be physically active through changes in the way the environments or places where people live, work and play are designed and built. The community design strategy builds on efforts around trails and corridors like the Chehalis Western and Woodland trails and local plans and policies like the Health & Human Services Chapter of the Thurston County Comprehensive Plan.
